Retired U.S. Army Major. Cybersecurity professional. Small-business owner. Horace Taylor knows the towns and cities of District 8 not from campaign briefings, but from a lifetime of living, working, and serving alongside his neighbors.
In His Own Words
I served 27 years on active duty and rose from enlisted soldier to field-grade officer. I left active duty to attend college full time, earned my degree at the University of Memphis, and a month after graduation returned to service as a commissioned officer, a Second Lieutenant (2LT) in the Signal Corps.
While on active duty I was responsible for the lives, welfare, and readiness of American soldiers, including during a deployment. That was never a responsibility I took lightly, and the weight of it has never left me.
I grew up in a blended family of thirteen siblings. My father was a Methodist minister. My mother passed in 1968 from breast cancer — I was six, my baby sister was four. My eldest brother was drafted during Vietnam. I chose to volunteer. The commitment to serve is in my bones.

I am progressive in thought, yet grounded in principles and values. I believe some things must be protected and conserved — and that change creates progress and opportunity.
I am not a career politician. I will not be boxed in by party loyalty. I am Independent — and independence is your greatest asset in Congress.
A Lifetime of Service
Enlisted as a Fixed Station Radio Repairer and promoted four times to Staff Sergeant. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps after college, promoted four more times, retired as a Major — responsible for the lives, welfare, and readiness of American soldiers, including during deployments.
Defense contractor, then federal Supervisor, Information Systems Security Manager, and today a cybersecurity specialist supporting the Department of War. Protecting this country in and out of uniform.
Founder and owner of Germantown Small Engine Repair LLC — payroll, regulation, and thin margins are not abstractions to me.
Co-founder of The Memphis Gavel Club developing the next generation of effective communicators and leaders across the Memphis area. Board member at Pediatric Learning Center (plcmemphis.org).

“I am running to restore hope and bring about change. The kind of change where everybody grows. With the cost of kitchen table items continuing to rise, America’s leaders must do better by The People.
America commemorates and celebrates 250 Years as an Independent Nation, and yet the overwhelming majority of Her citizens and immigrants struggle every day to provide for their families — a family of one, a pet. or a home full of children and aging parents.
Everybody should be respected, have access to affordable, longterm and preventive healthcare, quality food on their tables every day and night, and be able to call upon their God in whatever language, practice, ritual and faith of their beliefs.
America is a multinational, multi-religious, multi-fascinated Nation. And yet through all the heartaches and pains of The People, America remains the Nation in which the world wants to become a citizen of. So why am I running? I’m running to give America a much needed makeover — better yet, to outright fix what’s broken in America. We can rebuild America; we can make Her stronger. She can reach new heights and become the God-loving Nation of everybody’s desire. That’s why I’m running for Congress. As District 8 grows, so will Tennessee, and the Nation.”
